Jonathan is a lawyer based in Hong Kong with a strong focus on advising companies on their intellectual property and commercial strategies for both transactional and contentious matters.  With his broad experience in a specialist area of the law, coupled with a commercial and practical approach, he has become a trusted “go-to” advisor by a number of brand and technology focused multi-national and listed companies, many of which are household names.  A large segment of his clients also includes start-ups in all stages of their life cycle, from inception to those in advance stages financing.  Jonathan also regularly advises investors, including funds and private investors, on their potential investments.  Jonathan also helped set up one of Hong Kong’s earliest international accelerator programmes.  His IP expertise and experience in cross-border deals helps his investor clients identify pitfalls and pick out valuable standouts in potential investments start-ups.

Jonathan’s approach is one of accessibility and willingness to be hands-on, which allows his clients the relationship and legal guidance they need for their project, whether big or small.

He regularly advises on non-contentious matters, including global IP registration strategies; commercial matters such IP due diligence, licensing, technology transfer, commercial agreements, and cross-border transactions; and commercialization of all types intellectual property rights.  His clients have ranged from small tech start-ups, to multi-national Fortune 500 companies, to leading Universities.  Jonathan’s clients’ businesses are in a wide array of industries including TMT, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, fashion, toys and games, software, food and beverage, hospitality, TCM, and energy, among others.  Based in Hong Kong, Jonathan has had considerable transactional and disputes exposure to all types of commercial transaction matters (such as licensing, vendor, distribution, agency, and manufacturing contracts; as well as shareholder and joint-venture agreements).  He has recently been short-listed for the Asia Legal Business Young Lawyer of the Year Award, and is a part of the IP team short-listed for the Asia Legal Business IP firm of the year.
